RICHMOND, BC

Super Visa Insurance in Richmond

IRCC-compliant medical insurance for parents and grandparents visiting family in Richmond. We compare Canadian insurers and prepare your proof of insurance before you apply.

What IRCC needs

A policy from an approved insurer, with at least $100,000 of emergency coverage, that lasts a minimum of one year from entry.

Sort insurance out early

Your application needs proof the policy is paid, either in full or by instalments with a deposit. A quote is not enough.

Visa not approved?

Refunds for refused super visas depend on the insurer. We confirm the rules in writing before you buy.

Richmond family questions

Does MSP cover visiting parents?

No. To qualify for MSP, a person must be a BC resident: a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who makes their home in BC. Visiting parents are not covered.

My parents arrive at YVR. Does cover start at the airport?

It should start on the day they land. IRCC needs at least one year of cover from entry, so set the start date to the arrival date and update it if the flight changes.

If they need care in Richmond

Richmond Hospital is run by Vancouver Coastal Health and serves Richmond, South Vancouver and Delta, as well as travellers using YVR. Vancouver Coastal Health is building a new acute care tower there with a larger emergency department. Visitors are not covered by MSP, so call the insurer’s 24/7 assistance line early to get guidance on care and billing.

IRCC's rules, one by one

These rules apply to every super visa policy. Check each one before you pay.

Approved insurer

A Canadian insurance company, or a foreign company authorized by OSFI to do business in Canada. A broker cannot issue the policy itself.

12 months from arrival

The policy must stay valid for at least one year from the day your parents enter Canada, and be ready to show on each entry.

At least $100,000

Emergency coverage of $100,000 or more, for health care, hospitalization and repatriation.

Proof of payment

Paid in full, or instalments with a deposit. A price quote does not meet the rule.

Plan choices

What deductible should we choose?

Choose one your family could pay without strain. Higher deductibles lower the premium but raise what you pay first on each claim.

Will my father's heart condition be covered?

Possibly, if it has been stable for the period the plan requires. Each insurer defines stability differently, so we check the exact wording against his health history.

Monthly payments?

Available with some insurers. IRCC accepts instalment plans with a deposit.
