ABBOTSFORD, BC

Super Visa Insurance in Abbotsford

Super visa insurance for parents and grandparents visiting family in Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley. We compare Canadian insurers and get your proof of insurance ready before you apply.

The IRCC rule in short

Your parents need private medical insurance from an approved insurer, at least $100,000 of emergency cover, valid for one year or more from arrival.

Buy before applying

IRCC asks for proof of a paid policy: full payment, or instalments with a deposit. Quotes are not accepted.

If the visa is refused

Each insurer has its own refund rules. We confirm them for you, in writing, before you buy.

Abbotsford family questions

Are visiting parents covered by MSP?

No. MSP is for BC residents who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents living in BC. Parents on a super visa need private insurance for their stay.

Can they visit more than once on one visa?

Yes. A super visa can be a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 10 years, depending on the passport. They need valid insurance proof every time they enter.

If they need care in Abbotsford

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is run by Fraser Health and serves the eastern Fraser Valley. Its emergency department was expanded in 2021 with more space for trauma, cardiac and acute care. Visitors are not covered by MSP, so call the insurer’s 24/7 assistance line early to get help with care and billing.

Four rules IRCC applies

Every super visa policy is checked against these four rules.

Who issues it

An insurance company, not a broker: either Canadian, or a foreign insurer on OSFI’s federally regulated list. The insurer’s name must appear on the policy.

How long

Valid for at least one year from your parents’ date of entry, and on each later entry.

How much

At least $100,000 of emergency coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation.

How it is paid

Paid in full, or by instalments after a deposit.

Picking coverage

Does the deductible matter much?

Yes. It is the amount your family pays first on each claim. A higher one lowers the premium, so pick an amount you could cover quickly.

What about medicine changes?

A recent change in medicine or dosage can affect whether a condition counts as stable. Tell us about any changes before you buy, so the plan fits.

Is there a monthly option?

With some insurers. IRCC accepts instalments when a deposit is paid.

Not sure what fits? Ask a broker.
