Super Visa Insurance in Edmonton

Super visa medical insurance for parents and grandparents coming to stay with family in Edmonton. We help you pick an IRCC-compliant plan from Canadian insurers and get your proof of insurance ready.

What the policy must do

Cover emergency medical costs of at least $100,000, come from an approved insurer, and stay valid for at least 12 months after your parents arrive.

Order of steps

Buy the policy, then apply. IRCC asks for proof that it is paid in full or by instalments with a deposit, and will not accept a quote.

If IRCC says no

Each insurer handles refunds for refused applications in its own way. We confirm the terms with you before you pay.

Edmonton family questions

Are my visiting parents covered by AHCIP?

No. Alberta’s AHCIP rules exclude tourists, transients and visitors. Private super visa insurance is what protects them while they are in Edmonton.

Can the super visa be used for more than one trip?

Yes. IRCC can issue a multiple-entry super visa valid for up to 10 years, depending on passport validity. Your parents need valid insurance proof every time they enter Canada.

If they need care in Edmonton

Alberta Health Services runs Edmonton’s major hospitals. The Royal Alexandra Hospital on Kingsway NW and the University of Alberta Hospital on 112 Street NW both have 24/7 emergency departments. Visitors are not covered by AHCIP, so contact the insurer’s emergency assistance line early. They can guide your parents to care and explain how payment works.

IRCC's four checks

IRCC applies these checks to every super visa policy. Use them before you pay.

Right kind of insurer

The issuer must be an insurance company, either Canadian or a foreign company authorized by OSFI to do business here. A broker or claims administrator cannot be the issuer.

Right length

At least one year from your parents’ date of entry, with proof available at the border each time they arrive.

Right amount

Emergency coverage of $100,000 or more, including health care, hospitalization and repatriation.

Right payment

Paid in full, or paid by instalments with a deposit. Keep the receipt with the policy.

Plan questions

What does a deductible change?

A deductible is what your family pays first on a claim. Raising it usually lowers the premium. Keep it at an amount you could pay right away.

My mother has diabetes. Can she be covered?

It depends on the plan’s stability rules. Insurers look at whether the condition and its treatment have stayed the same for a set period. Tell us about any recent changes, as they can affect coverage.

Is monthly payment possible?

With some insurers, yes. IRCC accepts instalment plans once a deposit is paid. We will show you the options.

Not sure what fits? Ask a broker.

Tell us what you are protecting and we will come back with real options, usually the same day.
