Super Visa Insurance in Toronto
IRCC-compliant medical insurance for parents and grandparents visiting family in Toronto and the GTA. We compare Canadian insurers and help you have proof of insurance ready before you apply.
IRCC's minimum
A private policy from an approved insurer with at least $100,000 of emergency coverage, valid for one year or more from entry.
Insure first, apply second
The application needs proof of a paid policy. Full payment works, and so does an instalment plan with a deposit. A quote does not.
Refunds after a refusal
If the super visa is refused, refund terms depend on the insurer. We share those terms in writing before you buy.

Toronto family questions
Does OHIP cover parents visiting Toronto?
No. The Government of Ontario says visitors are not eligible for OHIP coverage. Super visa insurance is what pays for covered emergency care during their stay.
My parents land at Pearson. When should cover start?
On the day they arrive. IRCC needs cover for at least one year from entry, so match the start date to the flight and tell the insurer if the date changes.
If they need care in Toronto
Toronto has several large hospitals with emergency departments. Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre runs an emergency department and regional trauma centre. Visitors do not have OHIP, so when it is safe to do so, call the insurer’s 24/7 assistance line first. They can help your parents find care and explain how billing works under the policy.
Checklist before you pay
Use this list to check any super visa policy. IRCC applies the same rules in Toronto as everywhere in Canada.
Issued by an insurer
The policy must be issued by a Canadian insurance company, or a foreign company authorized by OSFI. Brokers and claims administrators do not count as issuers, and the insurer’s name must be on the policy.
Valid 12 months or more
Coverage must last at least one year from the date your parents enter Canada, and be valid on every entry.
$100,000 emergency cover
The policy must give at least $100,000 of emergency coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation.
Paid or on a deposit plan
Show it is paid in full, or paid in instalments with a deposit. Officers at the airport can ask for it.
Picking a plan
Is a $0 deductible worth it?
It usually costs more, but your family pays nothing first on a covered claim. A higher deductible lowers the premium. Choose based on what you could pay at short notice.
What if a condition changed recently?
A recent change in health or medicine can affect coverage, because many plans require a condition to be stable for a set period first. Tell us about any changes so we can compare the right plans.
Can we pay monthly?
Some insurers allow monthly payments on a yearly super visa plan, and IRCC accepts instalments with a deposit. Ask us which ones.
Not sure what fits? Ask a broker.
Tell us what you are protecting and we will come back with real options, usually the same day.
